To talk about Lacaton & Vassal is, to redefine the parameters, attenuate the aesthetics expectations, build with one budget more surface and answer the principle that more surface can be associated to a better quality of life.
That “extra space” that they offer to their clients, introduce an essential concept to organise an extreme method of thinking about architecture: the freedom renovated in opportunity.
The indefined space, neutral, turns into a place when the person appears. This architecture gives the opportunity to rule, to create his own natural environment “take the world” and have it close at hand. This can be interpreted as a control of the susesives layers of the different spaces and in which we live and we transformate from an individual or group form, doing from a neutral space a proper space. Life not only depends on the means, but the way is an opportunity to configurate our daily and natural world.
Every proposal emerges from some questions.
¿Is this “architecture of the opportunity” a way to live better our cities?
¿Es posible configurar las diferentes capas de nuestro espacio entorno conservando la seguridad doméstica y al mismo tiempo la libertad riesgosa de los horizontes?
¿Is it possible to configurate the different surfaces from our space keeping the domestic security and at the same time the risky freedom from the horizons?
Maybe the answer is in the possibility to easily decide when we are at home, isolated from the contemporary dizziness, how we want to be the little space in the world we have. When we wish the garden, street or beach be.
